A focused, practical playbook for developers in Lebanon who want to earn in fresh USD by working remotely for international clients and companies — and what you actually need (skills, internet, hardware, software) to do it well.
The local market reality (briefly)
Lebanon still has a real tech ecosystem — a trilingual (Arabic / English / French) talent pool from AUB, LAU, and USJ, and companies like Murex, Anghami, and various outsourcing and product shops, with hubs like Berytech and the Beirut Digital District. Roughly 46% of Lebanese tech professionals already work remotely, and software development is repeatedly cited as one of the fastest-growing local fields.
Locally, demand is strongest for web (frontend / full-stack) and backend developers — React and Python dominate. Mobile (Flutter / React Native) exists but is a smaller slice. Small teams hire generalists, so full-stack is the most employable profile locally — and, conveniently, also the most flexible one for remote work.
But the local salary ceiling is low. That's the problem this guide solves.
The dual-currency salary truth
Since 2019 the Lebanese pound lost over 90% of its value and the economy effectively dollarized for skilled work. Your entire financial reality now depends on which currency your paycheck is in.

Getting paid from Lebanon (the hard part — solved)
This is where most people get stuck. Payoneer does not currently support receiving freelancer payments in Lebanon. Here is what actually works.

What you actually need to work remotely
Earning $3,000/month remotely is only possible if your setup is reliable. International clients will drop you fast if calls freeze, you miss messages during a blackout, or your machine can't run the project. This section is the part most guides skip.
Internet / network speed
Your internet is your office. For professional remote dev work:

Key truths most people miss
- Upload speed is the real bottleneck, not download. Video calls, screen-sharing, and pushing code/containers all depend on upload. A connection that's "fast" for browsing can still fail you on a team call.
- Stability beats peak speed. A steady 30 Mbps is better than a 200 Mbps line that drops every hour. Clients remember the dropped call, not your speed test.
- Latency matters for calls. Under ~80 ms feels natural; over ~150 ms and you start talking over people.
- In Lebanon, redundancy is non-negotiable. Have a primary ISP + a backup (a second ISP or a 4G/5G mobile hotspot). The Cabinet approved Starlink (license signed Oct 2025), initially for companies at packages starting around $100/month — a serious resilience option for full-time remote workers.
- Test before you commit: run fast.com and speedtest.net at different times of day, especially during your client's working hours.
Hardware — PC / laptop specs
Don't try to do modern development on an 8 GB machine — it will cost you more in lost time than a better machine costs to buy.

Special cases
- Mobile / iOS development: you need a Mac — Xcode (for iOS builds) only runs on macOS. 16 GB+ RAM strongly recommended for simulators. For Android-only, a strong Windows/Linux machine is fine.
- Heavy backend / DevOps / ML: lean toward 32 GB RAM; you'll run multiple containers and databases locally.
Backup power (the Lebanon tax)
The state utility (EDL) provides only a few hours a day, and Lebanon has had total nationwide blackouts. You cannot tell a US client "sorry, no electricity." You need layered power:
- UPS / battery backup — keeps your laptop + router alive through short cuts and switchovers (bare minimum).
- Solar + inverter + batteries — the gold standard; many remote workers in Lebanon treat this as essential infrastructure.
- Generator subscription — the common fallback; confirm it covers your working hours.
- A laptop (not a desktop) gives you a built-in battery buffer — a real advantage here.
Software & tools
The stack international teams expect you to know your way around:

Communication & soft skills (this is what gets you rehired)
Technically strong developers lose remote jobs over communication, not code. Clients pay a premium for someone they don't have to chase.
- English — written above all. Most of remote work is async text (Slack, PRs, tickets). Clear, correct, concise written English is your most valuable non-coding skill. Practice it deliberately.
- Over-communicate proactively. Send short daily updates ("done X, working on Y, blocked on Z") before you're asked. Silence makes remote clients anxious.
- Be reliable about timezones. Know your overlap hours with the client (US / EU / Gulf) and protect them. RemotelyX-style roles may even expect you on US hours — decide if you can commit before saying yes.
- Default to async, escalate to calls. Use Loom and written tickets to reduce meetings; jump on a call when something is genuinely faster spoken.
- Document as you go. Leave clear PR descriptions, commit messages, and README notes. It signals seniority.
- Be coachable and professional on camera. Good lighting, a neutral/quiet background, camera on for intros — small things that build trust quickly.
- Responsiveness > speed. Acknowledge messages quickly ("on it, will reply in an hour") even if the full answer takes longer.
Your physical workspace
- A quiet, dedicated spot you can take calls from without interruption.
- Decent lighting facing you (a cheap ring light or a window) so you look professional on camera.
- A neutral background (or a tidy real one).
- Basic ergonomics — you'll spend thousands of hours here.
Gulf / MENA relocation (the other high-value path)
If you'd rather have a stable tax-free salary and in-person growth, the Gulf is the move. Quick orientation:
